Marley Phythian – Fourth Seat Trainee Solicitor
“From the get-go you get practical experience, not only deal with real cases, but you also having the opportunity to take the lead on and managing your own caseload. You get the experience of dealing directly with clients, brokers and third parties to build up your soft skills; as well as drafting relevant court documents e.g. ET3’s, witness statements, court orders/injunctions to build up your legal knowledge and litigation experience. This makes the transition to post-qualification life much smoother. I have personally had the privilege of assisting on complex employment cases and attending various hearings across the country, including the First-tier Tribunal (Property Chamber) in London. No matter what teams you are a part of throughout your training contract, there are always amazing opportunities available to you”
Mevish Arif – Second Seat Trainee Solicitor
“I am able to conduct research into various elements of the law and apply this to the discipline I am working in. This can include calling and emailing clients or completing reports on cover. We are given our own autonomy to complete tasks but we are also given support along the way which is what you need if you need that extra guidance as a trainee. I really enjoyed the recruitment process I feel like the way that rradar hires individuals is very unique and effective. The knowledge, experiences and qualifications are required. But rradar also observes the individuals personality and their ability to network and this is a crucial part of the recruitment process and it ensures that the correct individual is hired that fits in with rradar's culture and family. The more friendly and open you are the more attractive as a candidate you are.”
Elynor Drinkwater – Third Seat Trainee Solicitor
“The work available to trainees is invaluable, setting you up for qualification to ensure that you are ready to hit the ground running once qualified. Each team will expose its trainees to different variations of opportunities to develop your skillset in a very broad and unique way. For example, it is not just litigation work you will be involved with, the work could include working on producing insurance policies, working on station queries which is for general legal advice and enables trainees to gain a vast amount of knowledge in various areas, working with the Senior Leadership Team on projects which is an extraordinary experience you may not find anywhere else. rradar’s aim is to identify and mitigate against risks before they become legal problems so there is a real emphasis on educating our clients to ensure that they take steps to protect their position. Thus, opportunities to prepare and deliver presentations to clients, or by other means of delivering helpful guidance such as producing content or articles is available to all those in the business including trainees. I myself have contributed to published articles and content, including an article on financial sanctions. There are extensive opportunities at rradar to get involved in all sorts of different types of work and rradar encourage us to engage with the opportunities available”
Victoria Sugden - Associate Solicitor, former trainee at rradar
“During my 2-year training contract I completed 4 seats in BCR, Commercial Disputes, Employment and CDIL. The varied areas of law meant I was able to gain exposure to a wide range of different legal frameworks and cases. My workload ranged from attending Inquests and Health and Safety sentencing hearings to attending Employment Tribunals which differ greatly in terms of the process and procedure involved in the hearing and preparation of it. I gained practical front-line experience working on our legal advice line providing advice on both commercial matters and cyber and data protection matters. I also gained exposure to a range of different regulatory investigations during my time in BCR and CDIL and was able to understand how the regulatory framework applied depending on the regulator.”
